4 killed in van, water tanker collision near Malpur

Four people were killed Friday morning and five others sustained injuries as a result of collision between a Rawalpindi-bound passenger van and a water tanker near Malpur at Murree Road, police said.

The driver of the water tanker managed to escape from the scene. The passersby shifted the injured passengers and dead bodies trapped in the wreckage to the hospital.

Police said a passenger van, bearing registration number LZJ-6499, coming from Murree, collided with a water tanker which suddenly changed its lane to make a U-Turn near Malpur, adding that the passenger van overturned after acollision.

The people of the surrounding areas and passersby reached the scene and pulled out passengers as well as driver from the wreckage and shifted them to the hospital. The driver of the van, identified as Asif, 35, and three passengers were found dead on the spot.

The dead persons included Asif (35 years), Zaheer Abbasi (40), his wife Rukhsar Bibi (35) and son Basit (8). The injured persons have been identified as Jahangir, Sajid, Shagufta, Ahmed Nadeem and Shamriaz.
