HEC has new executive director

Islamabad: The former rector of the National Textile University and the founding principal of the NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), Professor Dr Arshad Ali, has joined the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as its executive director.

TheHEC’s governing body, the HEC Commission, had approved the selection of Dr. Arshad Ali as executive director during its 31stmeeting held on January 11, 2016.

Decorated by the Government of Pakistan with Pride of Performance due to his creative and strategic thinking and proven academic leadership skills, the association of Dr. Arshad with academics and research spreads over 33 years. He has also been awarded withSitara-e-Imtiaz that will be conferred upon him on March 23, 2016.

Having doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University ofPittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Arshad Ali has over 100 publications to his credit in national and international conferences and journals. He has also been awarded Gold Medal by Pakistan Academy of Sciences and COMSTECH for IT research, President'sGold Medal for being the Best NUST Researcher of the Year 2005 and 'Distinguished Scientist of the Year 2006'award by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Arshad has initiated research collaboration with Centre for European Nuclear Research (CERN), Switzerland, and earned the Associate Institute status of CMS-CERN for NUST. He has actively been working on various research projects with Stanford, USA, Caltech, USA, UWE, UK, and University of South Brittany, France.

Dr. Arshad has also served as Member of the International Advisory Board of the International ICFA Workshop on HEP Networking, Grids, and Digital Divide Issues for Global e-Science.
