KARACHI: Former Sindh minister and an MPA of the Pakistan People’s Party, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that false and baseless cases of corruption are being instituted against him at the behest of the federal government.
A statement issued by his spokesman based in Karachi on Thursday quoted the former influential provincial minister as saying that the cases being lodged against him had no factual basis while they were being instituted at the behest of and on the specific desire of the federal government.
Sharjeel Memon, who is at present residing in London to avoid being arrested by the law-enforcing authorities, said that he would write to the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau requesting him to personally inquire into the false corruption cases being lodged against him (Sharjeel Memon).
Memon said the Interior Ministry in Islamabad had placed his name on the Exit Control List (ECL) with mala fide intentions despite the fact that there had been no reference of corruption against him.
It is worth mentioning here that NAB had informed the Singh High Court the other day that a probe was under way against Sharjeel Inam Memon on the allegations that he had caused a loss to the national exchequer to the tune of Rs5 billion in publishing of provincial government’s advertisements during the PPP MPA’s stint as Sindh Information and Archives minister in the present and previous provincial governments of the PPP.
