Asia's first-ever two-day Social Sciences Expo will start today (Wednesday) at Pak-China Friendship Centre here on Wednesday, says a press release.
The Social Sciences Expo is aimed at educating the masses about the growth prospects and impact of social sciences on society. The event will be organised by the Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences and the Jang Media Group.
The main activities of the expo include: two-day international conference, parliamentary forum, scholars forum, diplomats forum, book festival, culture pavilions expo, distribution of social sciences awards, workshops for university faculty students, career counseling sessions and other activities. Different organisations and universities would also display their stalls related to their activities and programmes. In order to encourage the participation of youth, various activities including workshops and competitions have been chalked out.
On the first day of the expo,there will be a great event of producing the largest watercolour painting of the world. Atanur Dogan, Canada-basedpresidentof the International Watercolour Society will also be present on the occasion.The previous world record is of 45 feet long painting in Turkey while here in Pakistan, watercolour artists will make a 60 metre long painting depicting Pakistan'sculture. This mega activity will also be joined by about 50 senior artists from all over country.
The Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) spokesman said that the expo would be organised with alliance of more than 30 universities of the country aiming to celebrate 2016 as the Year of Social Sciences.
He said that the IUCPSS in close partnership with its partner organisations and member universities will also organise a number of countrywide events as a follow-up of the roadmap for strengthening social sciences in Pakistan.
Through these activities, Pakistani universities, academicians, policymakers, research and development organisations, parliamentarians, government departments and civil society would join hands to strengthen social sciences in the country.
