ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has approved a complete ban on airing of Indian content from October 21, said the media watchdog in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam and attended by Interior Secretary Arif Ahmed Khan, Secretary Information Saba Mohsin, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Nasir Muhamamd Khan, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr Ismail Shah, Shaheen Habibullah (Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Nargis Nasir (Member Punjab) and Sarfaraz Khan Jatoi (Member Sindh).

According to the statement, the decision to ban the Indian content was made after the government of Pakistan granted the watchdog authority with regard to decision making about Indian content.
The ban will be effective from 3:00 pm October 21 and licenses of TV channels and radio stations that violates PEMRA orders will be suspended without a show-cause notice, the statement noted.
