Madrassas funded by KP providing foot soldiers for PTI: Khawaja Asif

KARACHI: Defence Minister and a close adie of the prime minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday alleged that Madrassas funded by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government were providing foot soldiers for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s attempt to take over Islamabad on November 2, in a reference to Imran Khan’s plan to mount a march on the federal capital.

Days before the PTI’s showdown with the PML-N government over the Panama Papers scandal, the minister Tweeted that the religious seminaries funded by the PTI –led KP government were paying back by providing what he said foot soldiers.

In an earlier Tweet, the minister said Imran Khan was not ready to explain millions of dollars the Shaukat Khanum Memorial charity sent overseas and “billions collected during 2010 floods”.

Muhammad Zubair and Daniyal Aziz, top PML-N leaders, on Wednesday launched a fresh verbal assault against the PTI chief Imran Khan ahead of the so-called Islamabad March.

Speaking at Geo News current affairs show Report Card, senior journalist Saleem Khan Safi rejected Khawaja Asifs’ remarks saying the minister allegations were baseless .

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was told in June this year that a seminary in Nowshera district, administered by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami chief Maulana Samiul Haq, has been allocated Rs300 million in the annual budget for 2016-17.
