KARACHI: PTI chief Imran Khan will not attend the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualification reference which is scheduled to take place on November 2.
This was stated by the party's senior leader, Asad Umar, while speaking on Geo News' program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada ke Sath, Asad Umar said that Imran will not attend the disqualification reference hearing since the PTI chairman had invited Pakistanis at Islamabad on November 2.
"Imran Khan has issued an invite to the people of Pakistan to come out to Islamabad on November 2. Hence, he will be busy in the protest and will have to make necessary arrangements for it so he won't be able to make it to the ECP disqualification reference hearing," he said.
The ECP has issued notices repeatedly to the PTI chairman to attend the disqualification reference filed against him on November 2 and submit a response in this regard. The commission would otherwise take a notice on the petition if Imran fails to show up or respond.
The petition claims that Imran Khan does not fulfill Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Petitioner Hashim Ali Bhuta argues that Imran Khan had lied to the ECP and between 2001 and 2013 $2,992,000 were received by the party as foreign funds.
The petitioner claims that the PTI chief had claimed that he had not received funds from any foreign country hence he was guilty of lying.
