ISLAMABAD: The federal government has made up its mind and has prepared to fight PTI in a legal battle over a petition filed by it in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In a meeting held on Monday chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, senior federal ministers and key members of PML-N suggested the government fight its legal battle and respond to PTI's filed petition in the Supreme Court.

The attendees of the meeting were of the view that the government had nothing to fear since the leaked papers from the Panamanian tax firm did not contain the name of Nawaz Sharif, hence the PM faced no direct threat.

"The decision by the court to hear PTI's petition indeed supports government's stance," said PM's affiliates at the meeting. "Previously, the judicial commission annulled poll-rigging claims and this time too the government would come out clear."

Sources disclosed that the PM will in the near future constitute a team of legal experts and will hold consultations, discussions with them regarding the matter.
