October 21, 2014
SUKKUR: Secretary Education Sindh, Dr Fazlullah Pechuho spoke to the media on Monday on the agonising situation of the education department in the province.
He informed that 5,725 schools in the province are closed, 40 percent of all teachers in the province are ghost teachers while 30,000 of all teachers are fake appointees. He said that teachers’ unions and politicians create obstacles in bringing reforms in education and also when action is taken against ghost teachers. He made it clear that he would prefer to resign but would not compromise on education reforms.
The secretary disclosed that many teachers, instead of performing the duties they were supposed to perform, have settled in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Iraq and were drawing their salaries in Pakistan. He warned them to resign or face action. He asserted that as long he was heading the Sindh Education Department he would not accept fake appointees.
