Remand of housing scam accused extended

LAHORE:An accountability court on Tuesday extended judicial remand of one Tariq Shah, a prime accused in a housing society scam.

The court has adjourned hearing by April 14 while directing NAB to file reference of the scam as soon as possible. The NAB had arrested Tariq Shah in May 2019. During the probe, it revealed that the cooperative society landed in an agreement with private contractors, developers and as per the agreement, the society was to be provided with 625 acres of land between 2013 and 2016 while in violation of the agreement only 850 Kanals land could only be associated with the housing society. In view of the same, the accused accumulated approximately Rs2 billion from the general public by selling plot files. Later, the NAB arrested a deputy registrar Cooperatives, Ejaz Khan on charges of misuse of authority and abetment in the housing society scam.
