Huzaifa, Saqib in ITF Pakistan World Junior semis

KARACHI: Huzaifa Abdul Rehman (PAK), Suresh Darrshan (MAS), Saqib Hayat (PAK) and Cheng Wei Chen (TPE) advanced into the semi-finals of boys singles event of Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships at PTF Complex, Islamabad, on Wednesday.

Huzaifa made a major upset when he stunned top seed Ahmed Zyaan of Great Britain 6-3, 6-2. A large number of tennis fans witnessed this match, which lasted for an hour and 26 minutes.       

Saqib caused another upset when he eliminated fourth seed Rattanan Siritaworchar of Thailand in a thrilling three-set match 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. He will face Suresh Darrshan of Malaysia in the semi-final.

Second seed Suresh of Malaysia was leading against Faisal Ghouse of Canada by 3-0 when the latter conceded the match on medical grounds. In the last quarter-final, Chen Wei-Chen of Chinese Taipei defeated Muhammad Shoaib of Pakistan in a well-contested two set match 6-3, 6-4. He will face Huzaifa in the semi-final. In doubles quarter-finals, Mathew Yee (Hong Kong) and Nouman Aftab (PAK) beat Muhammad Shoaib (PAK) and Saqib Hayat (PAK) 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. Rattanan and Suresh beat Ahmed Asjad Qureshi (PAK) and Huzaifa 7-5, 6-1.

Chang Cameron Austin of the US and Cheng Hsuni Lui (Taipei) got walkover against Ahmed Zayyan (GBR) and Athav Neema (IND). Cheng Wei Chen (TPE) and Chou Wen Yi (TPE) got walkover against Michael Chung Tinchan (HKG) and Ghouse Faisal (CAN).
