Promoting pluralism

September 14, 2010
In view of the sectarian conflicts that pose a serious threat to Pakistan, the government needs to embark upon a reform agenda which envisions promotion of pluralistic traditions, secularism and the core foundations of humanism in Islam. The Constitution of Pakistan calls for equality for all inhabitants, regardless of the religion or sect they belong to. Pakistani society has over the years become infected with radical elements and there is increasing need for us to revert to our Sufi traditions, which are rooted in coexistence, harmony and tolerance.
