Taliban commander Rafiullah killed in Nangarhar
KABUL: A Taliban commander and three other militants were killed by military and police in the eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.
A statement released by the 201st Selab Military Corps in the country’s east states that Qari Rafiullah, a prominent commander of Taliban, was killed during operation Shaheen 13 in Koz Behar area of Khogyani District. The statement adds that two companions of Qari Rafiullah sustained injuries in the operation.
The Operation Shaheen 13 has been jointly launched by military police and personnel from the National Directorate of Security (NDS).Meanwhile, police have repulsed a militant attack in the Hesarak District of Nangarhar province. A statement released by the police headquarters of Nangarhar states that militants launched a coordinated attack on a number of security posts in the Hesarak District but faced a strong response by police. Group’s commander Mustafa besides two armed opponents were killed in the clash, the statement adds.
Nangarhar, which comparatively had better security, has become the most restive province in the country’s east. The province’s security worsened when Daesh emerged in its remote areas about a year ago.
