STTB introduces book on ethics for minorities
Karachi
The Sindh Textbook Board has decided to introduce a book on ethics for students belonging to religious minorities that would become part of the class-VII curriculum from the next academic session starting from April 1. This book will be used at all government-run schools.
The Chairman STTB, Syed Zakir Ali Shah, told The News on Tuesday that in the next stage the STTB would introduce a book for Class-VIII students which would have nine titles.
“We have been working on the subject and the course’s outline for almost five to six months. The idea came after attending a forum sometimes back where this issue was discussed in length.”
He mentioned that the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, in his speech delivered on August 11, 1947, had told everybody that he wanted a Pakistan for all, where people would not be classified and treated on the basis of their religious background.
“This book would present be a true picture of Quaid-e-Azam’s ideology. We have included subjects which gives the message of inter-faith harmony and what they have in common.”
Shah also said this book would cover all minorities living in the province and highlight their religious faiths.
“After the 18th Amendment, education has become a provincial matter and we believe that this is a step in the right direction,” he added.
“After three years, we will review the feedbacks and suggestions on the book and its subjects to bring changes if required. Educational experts, media and other sections concerned frequently give suitable proposals and the STTB would look forward to their recommendations.”
