As per unofficial results, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Pakistan People’s Party each bagged one more general councillor seat in Karachi on Thursday as polling was held in an area each of East and West districts.
In District East’s UC-28, MQM candidate Syed Shakir Ali reportedly surged to a comprehensive victory with 1,230 votes against a Jaamat-e-Islami candidate who bagged 15 votes and a PPP candidate who was said to have secured just four votes.
In District West’s UC-4, the Pakistan People’s Party emerged as the winning party as its candidate Salim Rindh secured 598 votes, defeating Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidates who were said to have received six and one vote, respectively.
Elections in these areas had been postponed on December 5 but were conducted without incident this time around.
Along with two districts in Karachi, polling was also conducted yesterday in areas across the province including Khairpur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Hyderabad, Noshero Feroz, Tando Allayar, Tharparkar, Thatta, Sajawal and Mirpur Khas.
