One killed, 13 hurt in building collapse
An empty of grenade recovered; bomb disposal squad says it didn’t cause explosion
LAHORE
A man was killed and 13 others, including four women, sustained injuries when a dilapidated building collapsed near Nisar Haveli in the Akbari Gate police limits on Wednesday.
Rescue 1122 and other emergency services rushed the scene, recovered the victims from debris and shifted them to hospital. The deceased was identified as Faisal and the injured as Tajamul Hussain, 50, Fida Hussain, 40, Salman, Shahbaz, Zahid, Irum, 38, Naseem Akhtar, 55, Amina, Ali, Haroon, Salman Ali, Maryam Shahbaz and Iqra.
The incident created panic in the locality as people thought it was a bomb blast. Local police, Rescue 1122 and Edhi ambulances rushed the scene and started rescue operation. There was a thick smoke on the sky soon after the incident. The bomb disposal squad also reached the scene to ascertain whether it was a terrorist activity or an accident. An empty of a grenade was also recovered from the area. However, the bomb disposal squad official said it did not cause explosion as it was filled with soil and there was no evidence of its triggering in the incident.
arrested: Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of FIA Lahore on Wednesday arrested a woman, Filipino national, on the charges of human smuggling.
According to FIA officials, the accused was identified as Janeth Ramilo alias Lorvi. The FIA officials told that she was involved in human smuggling. An FIR has been registered against her.
Accidents: At least 610 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which seven lives were lost and 514 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts.
However, some 181 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.
beggars: City District Government, Lahore (CDGL) arrested 26 beggars from different city roads here Wednesday and sent them to various rehabilitation centres.
Officials said a special squad of CDGL, on direction of Lahore DCO, checked various city roads, crossings and commercial centres and arrested 26 beggars from The Mall, Anarkali, Ravi Road, Lorry Adda, Canal Bank Road, Sadar, Mozang, Gulberg, Main Market, Akbar Chowk, Kot Lakhpat, College Road and Ghazi Road.
