ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority (NHA) has launched various maintenance projects to improve the condition of Karakoram Highway (N-35) also known as Silk Route.
An official of NHA told APP Friday measures have been taken to improve the condition of KKH about 67% of which is in fair to good condition and about 33% in poor condition.
He said that the length of N- 35 is 806 Km which traverses between Hassanabdal, Mansehra, Gilgit and Khunjerab Top.
He said that a total of Rs 1,910.48 million have been allocated for its maintenance under Annual Development Plan during past three years.
He said currently, work is in progress on three work packages between Thakot to Raikot section (Km 190-370) of KKH under the Chinese grant project.
The cost of this project is about 7.5 billion and project will be completed by January 2017. This project comprises of construction of five bridges and rehabilitation of 143 Km of road.
