Pakistani music producer wins international award

Sharif Awan, an internationally acclaimed music connoisseur from Pakistan, has been awarded a gold medal at the Global Music Awards in California, USA, according to a press release of the Tehzeeb Foundation.
The foundation is dedicated to preserving the musical heritage and culture of the Indo-Pak subcontinent, apart from popularising South Asian classical music.
Sharif Awan has been awarded for his album, Indus Raag --music without borders, showcasing the classical music heritage of the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent.
The prestigious Global Music Awards, held in California, cover the worldwide music industry. Awan is one of the nine gold medalists in various categories.
The awards were announced on June 16, 2016.
It is worth the mention here that the husband-wife team of Sharif and Malahat Awan has rendered real yeoman’s service in the endeavour of the preservation and popularisation of indigenous music and culture by hosting a whole lot of concerts featuring Indo-Pakistani classical music and musical instruments.
Awan is a writer and curator/producer of classical and folk music. He recently produced a song, “Gulsher”, eulogising the martyrs of the Army Public School, Peshawar. Awan is a senior-most bureaucrat in the Inland Revenue Service.
