Peace restored after military operation, says PTI leader

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) North Waziristan chapter’s general secretary Tariq Khan Dawar on Monday said that peace had been restored in the tribal areas as a result of the military operation Zarb-e-Azb.Speaking at a news conference here, he deplored that a baseless propaganda campaign had been launched in the area to create a gulf between the people and the security forces. He said the tribal people left for other parts of the province for the military operation Zarb-e-Azb, but a smear campaign had been launched that the security forces had bulldozed the houses of the tribesmen. He said that anti-state elements had damaged the houses to create rift between the people and the security forces.

 

Police ordered to be vigilant in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The SSP (Operations) Abbas Majeed Marwat has directed the police to be more vigilant during the Sehr and Iftar timings. During a visit to the Yakatoot Police Station, the SSP directed all the cops to increase patrolling and vigilance, especially during these timings.

 

15 critically injured as
gas cylinder explodes in Khairpur hotel

SUKKUR: Fifteen people were critically injured after a gas cylinder exploded in a local hotel on Monday. Reports said the cylinder exploded at the time when there were many people present in the hotel and were busy taking tea and meals. The hotel is situated in the limits of C-Section Police Station in Khairpur at Shah Husain Bypass. Local people and police shifted as many as 15 people to the Civil Hospital. Later five of them were shifted to a Larkana hospital after doctors declared their condition as critical. The injured included Muhammad Hanif, Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Pathan, Muhammad Ayub, Gul Muhammad, Ali Gohar, Muhammad Rafiq and others.

 

Two children killed, two women among five injured in firing

SUKKUR: Two children were killed, while five others, including two women, got injured in a firing incident in village Jam Sahab on Monday. Reports said unidentified accused entered a house and resorted to indiscriminate firing on the inmates of the house. The firing left two minors, Zakir Ali Bugti (5) and Shahanilla (8), dead on the spot, while Heer Zadi, Noor Bano, Fahamida, Aamir and Ghulam Murtaza were critically injured. Police rushed to the scene of the crime and shifted bodies and the injured to a Nawabshah Hospital. Police said the incident was the result of an ongoing enmity between two groups of the Bugti clan. Further investigation was underway.

 

Two brothers axe third brother to death

SUKKUR: Two brothers axed to death their third brother in Kandhkot on Monday. Reports said Abdul Sattar and Jeewan Jafri axed to death their brother Abdul Majeed Jafri at the time the deceased was taking tea in the Autaq outside his house. Police arrested the killers and have started investigating the reason for the murder.

 

Newspaper withdraws allegations against Aitzaz

ISLAMABAD: The ‘Daily Times’ has withdrawn its allegation against Senator Aitzaz Ahsan. In a clarification, newspaper stated that without reservations that neither the Senator nor his wife had ever obtained any quota of LPG from the government. The report pointed out that Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan carried on the business of LPG marketing as a purely private enterprise with no favour from any government, says a press release. Senator Aitzaz Ahsan had served a notice of defamation on the newspaper for alleging that he and his wife had obtained a quota of LPG from the Musharraf regime. After the clarification, Senator Ahsan instructed his attorneys not to pursue the matter further.

 

APCA rejects Sindh budget

NAWABSHAH: The All Pakistan Clerks Association has rejected the Sindh budget by declaring it an anti-workers budget. Addressing a press conference at the Nawabshah Press Club, Sindh APCA President Daud Unar said that over 30,000 low-grade employees had been deprived of their legitimate right of increase in their basic salary. He said that the Sindh finance minister at a pre-budget meeting with a delegation of the APCA had assured it the government would upgrade employees from grade-1 to grade-16. He had also assured the delegation of time scale and son quota to employees.

 

Govt blamed for deadlock in finalising ToRs

OKARA: Pakistan People’s Party Punjab president Mian Manzoor Ahmad Khan Wattoo has blamed the government for the deadlock in finalising the terms of reference (ToRs). Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he said the government was under misconception that it would succeed in breaking unity of the opposition by using delaying tactics in finalising the ToRs. Wattoo said all the opposition parties, including the PPP, PTI, JI and ANP, were united. He said the opposition might call an APC if all hopes on finalising the ToRs were lost. Wattoo said that the PPP had received PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri’s invitation to join the Dharna on June 17 in Lahore to commemorate the Model Town massacre in which 14 people were killed. He said he would participate in the PAT protest.

 

PML-N MPA leads protest against loadshedding

DERA GHAZI KHAN: PML-N MPA Mehmood Qadir Leghari on Monday led hundreds of people to protest against power loadshedding. Addressing the protesters outside the commissioner’s office, the MPA said the federal government was testing the endurance of consumers of Dera Ghazi Khan through discriminate loadshedding of 18 hours. He said consumers of his constituency were suffering discriminating outages and business activities of the locals were totally paralysed. The MPA said the Mepco had issued detection bills to locals unjustifiably. Later, Mehmood Qadir Leghari met the commissioner and told him the whole situation.

 

Murder accused escapes from lock-up

DPO suspends five policemen, including SHO

HAFIZABAD: An accused escaped from the Sadr police station lock-up here on Monday. The accused, Adnan alias Dani of Wingay village, was involved in five murder and other cases. Police had arrested him from Jahrianwala about two weeks ago. On the day of the incident, the accused managed to escape from the lock-up. Meanwhile, District Police Officer Haroon Joiya suspended five police officials -- SHO Ghulam Muhammad, Investigation Officer Muhammad Azam and Constables Sarfraz, Akram and Naseer – for negligence. Police have registered a case against the accused policemen and arrested two of them, Sarfraz and Akram.

 

Girl, woman abducted in Pakpattan incidents

PAKPATTAN: A girl and a married woman were abducted in different incidents here. In the first incident, five people, including Ghulam Rasool, entered the house of Sabir Ali in Chak Gorditta and allegedly abducted his 16-year-old daughter. In the second incident, Ali Raza and three others allegedly abducted the wife of Riaz. Police have registered separate cases and started investigation.

 

Constable injured in police van attack dies

TOBA TEK SINGH: A police constable, Ghulam Shabbir, who was injured during an attack on a police van in Pirmahal on Saturday, died in the Faisalabad Allied Hospital on Monday. On Saturday, two accused attacked a police van and shot at and injured constables Ghulam Shabbir and Imtiaz Ahmad. They also got prisoner Ansar Ali freed from the police custody. Later, police killed the prisoners and the two attackers in encounters.

 

Lawyers protest colleague’s killing

LALAMUSA: Lawyers of District Bar Association Gujrat and Tehsil Bar Association Kharian on Monday protested the murder of their colleague, who was shot dead when he was going to attend Gujrat Court along with his friend. Lawyers demanded immediate arrest of killers. Advocate Sajid Javed of village Pourajpur was shot dead by six gunmen in village Fatyalian.

 

Boy loses life for Rs500 bet

MULTAN: A 13-year-old boy lost his life for Rs500 bet on showing swimming expertise in the Sher Shah Canal here on Monday. Muhammad Adnan, 13, of Basti Ambala, made a bet with his friend to decide who was a good swimmer. Both the friends jumped into the canal but Adnan drowned. On information, Rescue 1122 staffers reached the spot and recovered the body of Adnan after a struggle of six hours.

 

Three human traffickers held

FAISALABAD: The FIA arrested three human smugglers here. The FIA team raided and arrested Umer Farooq of Chak 279, Faisalabad, and two brothers Naeem and Waseem of Khushab. They were arrested on the charge of extracting millions of rupees from various persons on the promise to send them to foreign countries. Further investigation is under way.

 

Boy commits suicide in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: A boy committed suicide in Ahmad Ali Town. Muhammad Bilal ended his life by swallowing poisonous pills. The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.
