Refusing a ‘friend’s’ marriage proposal allegedly claimed another 23-year-old woman’s life, whose tortured and bullet riddled body was found from an empty plot near Khayaban-e-Arafat, police authorities reported on Saturday.
The body of the woman, Saniya Kanwal alias Nazia, was located after the suspect, Babar Ali, was arrested from Gulistan-e-Jauhar, by officials of the Sharea Faisal police station, where the complaint of the woman going missing was initially lodged.
SHO Tariq claimed that a man Wali Mohammad had filed a missing persons’ complaint on June 6, stating that his daughter was kidnapped by unidentified men after she left her residence on the date.
He alleged that investigating the case, the police traced cell phone calls to a number which led to the accused. He further alleged that during investigation the accused had confessed to kidnapping and murdering the woman along with his accomplices. Her body was shifted to the JPMC for a post-mortem. The officer claimed that girl was tortured before being shot dead; a single bullet to her neck.
The SHO said she was an educated girl and wanted to get a government job but her parents had decided to get her married to someone she did not want to marry. However, the accused who also wanted to marry her had promised her a job through a friend he claimed was employed at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He was reported to have called Saniya at an undisclosed location and murdered her.
