Peace campaign launched in Khyber Agency
LANDIKOTAL: The political administration has launched “Rangoona Pa Khyber Ki” (colours in Khyber) campaign in Khyber Agency to promote peace and beautify the region.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Political Agent Khalid Mehmood said that it was a development programme aimed to revive healthy activities in militancy-hit areas of Khyber Agency, including all three tehsils of Bara, Jamrud and Landikotal. He said that besides revival of Safari train, sports and cultural events and painting of walls were also part of the programme.
The political agent formally launched survey for repair of Safari train’s railway track between Peshawar and Torkham. He said around 50-kilometre railway track had been washed away by flash floods in various locations of Khyber Agency a few years ago.
Fata Sports and Culture Director Muhammad Tayyab Abdullah told this correspondent that the Fata Secretariat had approved the “Rangoona Pa Khyber Ki” programme to portray soft image of the area and discourage culture of weapons.
Regarding a recent clash between two groups of Zakhakhel Amn Committee that took four lives, Khalid Mehmood said the new chief of the committee would be chosen on the consent of Zakhakhel tribesmen. He said jirgas were being held to choose new committee chief.
