In light of a recent disease breakout among peafowl in Thar, the Sindh Livestock Department has provided necessary medicines for medical aid to the Forest Department.
Forest Secretary Rizwan Memon in a meeting with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Monday at the CM House said that he had dispatched eight teams of wildlife officers to Thar and each group was accompanied by one veterinary doctor as well. Qaim also took notice of the demise of camels in the same area due to mysterious circumstances.
The Livestock department's poultry wing has provided the teams with 20,000 vaccines of antibiotics, 20,000 of vitamins, glucose and others necessary items. “Our department has arranged feed for the peafowl on its own,” said Memon.
The secretary wildlife said that out of eight peafowl, which is a kind of a peacock, kept in quarantine at Mithi, four have been released after giving them necessary treatment. The Livestock department has also started vaccines of poultry in the Thar Desert area especially in Chowwatio where many peafowl have fallen prey to the disease.
Referring to the deaths of camels in the desert area, the CM directed his Principal Secretary Alammuddin Bullo to speak to the Livestock department and take necessary measures to curb this disease. He added that like peafowl the camels were also the beauty of Thar Desert.
He told the secretary Forest who also holds the position of Senior Member Board of Revenuem Rizwan Memon that he would visit Thar district during this week and would personally observe the situation in hospitals, veterinary services, and the plight of livestock as well as development work.
