Pakistan, Romania have strong trade, cultural ties: envoy

Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan Emilian Ion on Wednesday said that Pakistan and Romania have strong economic, trade and cultural relation rooted in decades old history.
He hailed Pakistan efforts for regional connectivity and economic integration of South Asian countries through China, Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port to provide opportunities for regional trade link like European Union (EU) countries.
“We want to enhance trade volume with Pakistan that currently touched $300 million mark,” he said this while addressing ‘Meet the Press’ organised by National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad along with NPC President Shakeel Anjum and Secretary Imran Ahmed Dhillon along with others on Wednesday.
The ambassador of Romania said that Romania has provided full support to Pakistan for acquiring the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) with European Union (EU) countries.
Now both countries are looking for future aspect of economic relations and want to enhance their import and export ties, he said. The ambassador said that Pakistan and Romania has extended the defence cooperation and currently both of the countries have different agreements in defence production and relevant areas.
The ambassador said, “Pakistan and Romania are music loving nations for the promotion of cultural activities and music, the Romanian embassy has organised different music concerts in Pakistan to introduce their music in Pakistan as well as give opportunity to local musician to perform in Romania.
While highlighting the role of media in society, he said that media have big role to shaping the opinion of the people and create awareness to change life of the people. He appreciated the role of Pakistani media and pay tribute to the media on the occasion of Press Freedom Day for their contribution.
While addressing the ceremony, NPC President Shakeel Anjum welcomed the Romania Ambassador and stressed the need for media-to-media cooperation between Pakistan and Romania.
He said that National Press Club offered full cooperation to the Romanian embassy for the promotion of cultural activities in the club.
On the Occasion, NPC Secretary highlighted the different aspects of relations between Pakistan and Romania.
While expressing his opinion on Pakistan Romania relations, Secretary Finance Ishaq Chaudhary shared historical aspect of relations between both countries and stressed to need for more cooperation in education. In the end Shakeel Anjum presented NPC memento to the ambassador.
