Design of Rafi cricket stadium in Bahria Town completed Construction to begin soon
KARACHI: The architectural design of the Rafi cricket stadium being constructed at the Bahria Sports City, Karachi, has been completed.
The construction of the Stadium will begin soon. The Bahria Town had announced this project only two months ago, and for this purpose a contract was also signed with a German firm GMP architects but the design for the stadium has been finalised in two months.
This modern and exceptionally-designed stadium will help present a fair image of the country in the International cricket. The stadium, which is being designed according to the ICC standards, will have three-levels to house around 50,000 people. The stadium will also have a hostel, gymnasium, swimming pool and a cricket academy on its premises.
Renowned figures from the cricketing world would be hired to promote the local as well as international cricket in the country. The stadium will have two full-sized outdoor fields and 12,000 square meter space for the indoor games. The project will also have a separate parking for around 10,000 cars.
The CEO Bahria Town, Ali Riaz Malik, said that building a largest cricket stadium in the country was an honour for the Bahria Town. He said our aim is to bring the international cricket back in the country. “The Bahria Town has always played an important role in the development of the country and it will continue to do so,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, a representative of the GMP architects Marks said that working with the Bahria Town was an honour for the team. He said this was the first stadium being constructed after the 2009 cricket stadium in Dubai. “We are happy and satisfied with the progress of the work on this project,” he added.
To design and construct the stadium, contracts have been signed with a number of consultants and architects from around the world, including the GMP Germany structural consultant, SBP Germany Pre-Cast Sports assistance, JPC and SGH USA.
A contract has also been signed with the Philips for the installation of floodlights at the Rafi stadium.
The stadium will be a world-class and largest ever in the country. It will also help in bringing the international cricket back in the country. The Bahria Sports City, Karachi, will include a cricket stadium, a football ground, a 36-hole PGA standard Golf course and five-star hotels.
