Sindh Assembly passes resolution in eminent writer’s honour; Bilawal terms

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chief of the Pakistan Peoples Party, expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of renowned author, poet and columnist Agha Saleem, who passed away after a prolonged illness on Tuesday.
Agha Saleem remained the station director at Radio Pakistan, Karachi, and also served as the editor of a Sindh newspaper, Daily Jaago, in 1995.
He was also credited for translating Sufi saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry into English and Urdu languages.
His famous stories and novels include Chand ki Tamana, Andheri Dharti Roshan Hath, Namukamal Insan and Lazat-e-Gunah.
He was also awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz twice in 2013 and 2015 for his excellent literary services.
”His death has created a vacuum in Sindhi literature which is unlikely to be filled in the near future,” Bilawal said.
“His memories will remain with us and all those who love and understand the worth of literature in a progressive society.”
Bilawal also offered condolence to the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage and fortitude to the members of his family to bear this irreparable loss.
The Sindh Assembly also unanimously adopted a condolence resolution over the death of eminent novelist and poet, Agha Saleem.
“Agha Saleem will always be remembered with love, affection and admiration,” read the resolution moved by PPP MPA Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
