Stalls of bona fide newspaper vendors not to be removed: commissioner

A delegation of Markazi Anjuman-e-Akhbar Faroshan Karachi met Karachi Commissioner Syed Asif Hyder Shah on Wednesday and informed him about the problems being faced by newspaper vendors and hawkers in the metropolitan city.
The commissioner said he recognised the importance of the profession of newspaper sellers and hawkers as the people associated with the trade were virtually like the backbone of the country’s newspaper industry.
He said he recognised the importance of the print media. He was of the view that newspaper stalls created awareness and did not fall in the category of encroachments.
He said newspaper stalls could not be considered usual roadside encroachments in the city. He vowed that those newspaper stalls which were duly identified and recognised by Markazi Anjuman-e-Akhbar Faroshan and were established in accordance with its rules and regulations would not be removed.
The commissioner assured the delegation that a directives to this effect would be communicated to the authorities concerned in due course of time.
The delegation was led by Anjuman’s president, Muhammad Iqbal Noon, and comprised General Secretary Abdul Hameed Dada, Vice President Abdul Sattar, Senior Vice President Chaudhry Nazeer, Press Sectary Shafeeq Bhai and Finance Secretary Nasir Nisar.
