Inclusion of southern KP districts in CPEC sought
PESHAWAR: Former federal minister Anwar Saifullah Khan and Senator Salim Saifullah Khan have asked the provincial government to take up with the federal government the inclusion of southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
According to an official handout, they were talking to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak here on Sunday. They deplored that the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were ignored in the development projects.
The two politicians, who are also brothers, said the people and politicians of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should rise above the political divide and join hands to work for
the uplift of the hitherto underdeveloped areas in the province.
The communiqué said that they asked the chief minister to take up with the quarters concerned the delay in undertaking the Chashma Right Bank lift irrigation scheme. They pointed out that if a railway line was laid through the southern districts in KP, it would reduce distance between Peshawar and Karachi by 400 kilometres. They also demanded immediate construction of the Kurram-Tangi Dam to resolve the water shortage problem of the area.
