KARACHI: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Attaur Rehman on Saturday regretted that Pakistan is considered among world’s nine most illiterate countries where only 2 percent of the total budget is spent on education.
“A lot can happen if the private sector comes forward and play its role,” Dr Attaur Rehman said while addressing a convocation at a private college here.
The HEC Chairman said Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif had promised to allocate 4 percent of the budget for education, adding, he hoped that the PM would fulfill his pledge.
Later, degrees and certificates were conferred upon qualifying students of BBA and MBA while gold medals were awarded to those who showed outstanding performance.
