LAHORE: The negotiations scheduled to be held later this month between the foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India are likely to be postponed following the attack on India’s Pathankot air base.
Now a meeting of the National Security Advisors (NSAs) of the two countries will take place first in which issues relating to terrorism will be discussed.
The foreign secretaries were scheduled to meet on January 14 as a result of a thaw in bilateral relations achieved after the Indian external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj visited Pakistan.
Pakistan and India had agreed to resume the peace talks under a new name: ‘Comprehensive Bilateral Talks’.
India’s Pathankot airbase came under an armed attack on Saturday and a military operation was launched to clear the base. According to Indian officials, six terrorists have so far been killed while the operation still continues to secure the facility.
