LAHORE: The government's proposal to turn the Kahna Kacha Industrial area into a residential society did not go down well with traders and industrialists, as dozens of them staged a protest on Monday.
Demonstrators took to the streets and blocked the Ferozpur road, which caused a traffic jam. While protesters burnt tyres and chanted slogans, citizens suffered as they had to bear the traffic jam in the uncomfortable heat.
The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad had earlier met a deputation of the Kahna Kacha Industrial Estate last week.
Citing the reason that it would put millions of people out of their jobs, the LCCI has opposed the transformation of the Kahna Kacha Industrial area into a residential society.
Arshad had urged the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to shelve the plan of sacrificing the Kahna Kacha Industrial Estate for the sake of a residential scheme as it would result in dire consequences.
