MARDAN: Police averted major loss of life by foiling a suicide blast attempt.
According to details, police fired upon the suicide bomber and killed him. In the exchange, two police officers including 12 persons were injured.
DPO Faisal Shahzad revealed how a suicide bomber had appeared outside the City Police Station and when near the vehicle of the SHO, had been spotted by police officials who opened fire at him.
Due to the firing, the suicide vest of the bomber blew up, injuring two nearby police officers and ten civilians who were standing nearby. Out of these ten, eight were shifted to DHQ hospital for medical treatment while four other injured were taken to Mardan Medical College.
Police also recovered explosives from the suicide bomber's cycle, which was disarmed by the Bomb Disposal Unit. Police also took the suicide bomber's head and other body parts into their custody.
After a DNA test has been conducted, police will be able to ascertain the identity of the suicide bomber.
