ISLAMABAD: Forty-eight Pakistanis who were stranded at Russia’s Moscow airport have returned home while 84 others are expected to arrive later tonight.
Their repatriation became possible through the intervention of Pakistan’s foreign office.
The Pakistani traders, who had landed in Moscow to attend a mobile phones’ convention, were taken into custody by the Russian authorities upon their arrival. They were kept locked in a room for 24 hours and were set free today.
Earlier today, the foreign office spokesman said that the stranded 48 Pakistani traders stranded at the Russian airport would be leaving for Pakistan later in the evening today.
He said the Pakistan embassy was also in constant contact with the traders.
He, however, said that the embassy has no information about the reasons cited for earlier deporting of 48 Pakistanis from Russia.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also took note of the issue and directed all possible assistance to help them return home at the earliest.
