Year 2015 too remained hard for Pakistani journalists

KARACHI: Like in the past, 2015 too turned out to be dangerous year for the people associated with the media organizations as several journalists were killed in the line of duty.

KARACHI: Like in the past, 2015 too turned out to be dangerous year for the people associated with the media organizations as several journalists were killed in the line of duty.

Several workers affiliated with media were killed and Digital Satellite News gathering (DSNGs) came under attack in various parts of the country.

On September 8, terrorists riding on motorbikes attacked Geo News' DSNG van in Karachi's Bahadurabad area, killing the channel's satellite engineer and injuring the driver.

On the very next day on September 9, senior Journalist Aftab Alam was shot dead in North Karachi area. Alam too had worked with Geo News for several years.

Samaa TV's DSNG van came under attack in Karachi's Liaquatabad area but fortunately no one was hurt in the attack on September 20.

November 3: Zaman Mehsud, a journalist affiliated with a local newspaper and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) was targeted and killed in Tank.

November 24: Hafeez-ur-Rehman, a journalist affiliated with Pashtu language local channel was shot and killed by unknown men at his home.
