PM Nawaz leaves for Malta to attend CHOGM

MALTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has left for Malta to participate in the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

MALTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has left for Malta to participate in the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The meeting is being held in the Mediterranean island state on November 27-29 with the theme “Adding Global Value.”

The Prime Minister will join leaders arriving in the Maltese capital Valletta to attend the CHOGM’S two retreat sessions that will discuss violent extremism and radicalism, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and migration.

A special session will be dedicated to climate change which will issue the leaders Statement on Climate Action.

The leaders will also elect the new Secretary General of CHOGM for the next four year term.

The Prime Minister will also attend a banquet hosted by the British Queen and another banquet by Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat.

Besides attending the two-day Commonwealth meeting, the Prime Minister will also meet several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit to discuss bilateral and global issues.

Pakistan is one of the eight founding members of the Commonwealth and is enhancing its relations with the organization.

After completing Malta visit, PM Nawaz will arrive in France to attend UN climate summit. He will also meet French leadership on the sidelines of the conference.
