6.2 magnitude quake rocks several parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Tremors were felt in several parts of Punjab, Kyhber Pakhtunkhwa provinces as well as Islamabad capital territory as a result of an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude rocking wide swathes of land late on Sunday.

However, no report of any damage to life or property has so far been received from any part of the quake-hit areas.

ISLAMABAD: Tremors were felt in several parts of Punjab, Kyhber Pakhtunkhwa provinces as well as Islamabad capital territory as a result of an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude rocking wide swathes of land late on Sunday.

However, no report of any damage to life or property has so far been received from any part of the quake-hit areas.

The magnitude was recorded at 6.2 on the Richter scale at Pakistan Meteorological Department while the US Geological Survey (USGS) puts it at 5.9.

The epicenter of the quake was 86 kilometers deep and located somewhere in the border area of Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

The quake was felt in Muree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jehlum, Sialkot, Vihari, Sahiwal, Kasur, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Shaikhupura.

The tremors also rocked Peshawar, Mansehra, Shangla, Swat, Nowshehra, Dirbala and adjoining areas.

Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, Ghadar and other surrounding areas were also jolted by the earthquake.
