Remand of suspected Safoora bus attack facilitators extended

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi has extended the remand of three suspects accused of facilitating the gruesome terrorist attack on a Ismaili community bus near Safoora Chowrangi that claimed 46 lives.

The suspects – former Fishermen Cooperative Society vice chairman Sultan Qamar Siddiqui, his brother Hussain Qamar alias Shibli, and Sajid Naeem alias Peena – will now stay under physical remand in police custody until October 15.

Sultan Qamar Siddiqui was previously under Rangers custody for 90 days and was remanded by the ATC on September 16 into police custody until Sept 30 along with the other two accused.

The suspects are accused of giving logistics support to the attackers and providing them with weapons to carry out the gruesome attack.

Five suspects – Saad Aziz, Muhammad Azhar Ishrat, Haafiz Nasir, Tahir Hussain Minhas and Asadur Rehman – are already under arrest for allegedly carrying out the terrorist attack in May this year and are currently on judicial remand.
