GOJAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Attabad Tunnel along the Karakoram Highway on Monday. The tunnel is part of a 24 kilometer realignment project which has been completed in collaboration with China.
Upon his arrival the prime minister was received by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan and was given a briefing on the details of the project which includes five tunnels, two bridges and a 16-kilometer stretch of road.
The Attabad lake was formed after a massive landslide in 2010 which severed a large section of the Karakoram Highway. At its longest points the lake stretched up to 21 kilometers.
