KARACHI: Investigators on Sunday claimed to have made headway in the probe into the Safoora Goth bus attack that killed 47 people in May this year.

A DNA test result found traces of blood of victims on the clothes of assailants who attacked the bus carrying members of the Ismaili community.

An investigator from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) found pieces of clothes that the militants were wearing at the time of attack and later burnt them after executing the massacre.

A DNA test ran by Liquat National Hospital’s laboratory has confirmed that blood samples of victims match those found on the clothes.

The CTD had arrested five suspects who confessed to their involvement in the attack.

The investigating authorities consider the DNA test a significant development in the probe that would be presented as evidence in the trial court.
