Asif terms border violations a cover-up for growing unpopularity of Modi govt

SIALKOT: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday said the Indian government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to divert attention from its growing unpopularity and bad governance by resorting to ceasefire violations at Pakistani borders.

Speaking to media representatives after visiting injured of unprovoked Indian firing here, he said the Indian government had failed to achieve its goals and therefore its popularity graph was showing a downward trend internationally.

To divert attention from this, India was committing border violations, said the minister, adding that the Modi government wanted to engage Pakistan in a low intensity limited war.

However, Pakistan was capable to combat any such aggression, said Asif.

“India would now suffer more losses than 1965 war as Pakistan is an atomic power and its forces are professionally trained and well equipped,” he added.

The defence minister went on to say that the Modi government was targeting Pakistani border areas to hide anti-government protests in Ahmedabad, the capital of PM Modi’s native state.
