Pakistan lodges strong protest with Afghan Envoy over rocket attack

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday summoned Afghan Ambassador to its Foreign Office and lodged its protest over the cross-border rocket attack that martyred four Pakistani soldiers besides injuring as many.

At least four army personnel were martyred and as many injured when a rocket fired from the Afghanistan side landed on a check-post in Khyber Agency, the media wing of Pakistan military said.

Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai was called in Islamabad’s Foreign Office where Pakistan’s strong protest was conveyed to him. Pakistan demanded of the Kabul to take measures on war-footing to put a curb on such cross-border attacks.

According to ISPR, unidentified terrorists targeted the military check-post, located at an altitude of 8,000 feet, from across the Afghanistan border.

Responding to the attack, the Pakistan Army destroyed a militant hideout, killing many terrorists, the ISPR added.

The attack comes days after Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai was called in by Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry to convey concerns over recent spate of Afghan government’s allegations and media campaign to malign Pakistan.
