Reham will not contest elections on PTI ticket: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that his wife Reham Khan will not contest elections on a party ticket.

“PTI is opposed to all forms of nepotism. Reham Khan will hold no political position, no position in KP; nor will be given any official protocol,” Khan tweeted.

The PTI Chairman clarified that Reham had only attended PTI functions at the constant insistence of PTI members, especially the women. “I am appalled and disgusted by attacks on Reham after our loss in NA-19 elections. She only went to campaign there on the insistence of the candidate.”

Imran Khan went on to say that Reham was politicised and one of the greatest achievements of the PTI dharna (sit in) was to make our women and youth politicised. He added that people can only fight for their rights effectively and against injustice when they are politicised.

“Reham Khan already has too much on her plate, especially working with street children. In future, she will not attend any PTI function/event.”

Khan added that he had insisted that Reham come to Karachi and visit NA-246 during the by-election as they wanted to challenge the fear factor and get women out to vote.

Reham Khan also took to Twitter on Tuesday and expressed her support for the PTI cause saying that “it is something my husband has devoted his life too.”

Rehman said she would have supported anything her husband had put his heart and soul in, adding that she sees him working long hours alone for the future of the nation.

“Khan and I have the same goal to see Pakistan prosper. He pursues it via a political party and I work voluntarily for educating our children,” Reham tweeted.

Reham added that she had repeatedly said she was not interested in contenting because those who do haven’t made Pakistan any better.

“I had declined invitations for candidacy from political parties long before getting married to Imran Khan.”

Reham further said she had supported others but had never sought the support of anyone to achieve anything in life.
