ISLAMABAD: The federal government has been advised by the Ministry of Law to conduct an inquiry into Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) resignations from the National Assembly, Sindh Assembly and Senate.

According to the Law Ministry, it was observed that the MQM lawmakers appeared to have been under some kind of pressure as they tendered their resignations.

The federal government had sought advice from the Ministry of Law before taking any final decision in connection with MQM’s latest move.

“There may be no doubts in the resignations being genuine but nothing can be said about whether or not the members submitted them voluntarily,” said a statement from the ministry.

It is in this context that the ministry has advised the government to order an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has said that he will not approve the resignations of MQM MNAs if they submit an application to withdraw their earlier action.
