KARACHI: The education department of Sindh government on Saturday wrote a letter to Commissioner Karachi seeking a swift action against schools that are vying to reopen on August 3 despite an official notification about reopening of all schools and colleges in the province on August 11.

Dr Mansoob Hussain Siddiqui, Director General Directorate of Inspections of Private Schools and Colleges told Geo News that heavy fines can be imposed and registration of the schools can be cancelled if they persist with their decision to resume education from August 3 after summer vacation.

Associations representing private schools in Sindh had rejected a seven-day extension in the summer vacation announced by the provincial government on Thursday.

A statement issued by the APSMA on Friday said the districts that are not hit by recent flash floods and torrential monsoon rains should be allowed to resume education in private schools by August 3 as scheduled.

Citing upcoming holidays pertaining to local government elections in Sindh, the association said children will further suffer due to prolonged vacations.

Speaking to Geo News yesterday, Sindh Education Secretary Fazlullah Pechuho had said the government will ensure implementation of the directive issued regarding extension in summer holidays.

He went on to say that cases would be lodged against officials of private school associations for rejecting the provincial government's directives.

The tussle between the private school associations and the government has left parents of school/college going children in a state of bewilderment.
