LAHORE: Lamenting what he calls ‘incomplete work’ by the Judicial Commission that rejected his allegations of poll rigging, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said he has sent a letter to the Election Commission, apprising it of his ‘reservations’.

Speaking after hosting a luncheon to senior journalists and anchor persons here, he said that the inquiry commission’s verdict has been accepted with an open heart despite a widespread public opinion of an anti-PTI decision prior to the issuance of JC report.

Khan said he regrets that the inquiry commission has left its probe ‘incomplete’, which he added should have been taken to its logical conclusion.

The PTI chief for the first time said that his party will learn from the past mistakes and perform better in future polls.

The cricket star-turned-politician criticised elements, which he said wrongly used the name of former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Shuja Pasha for his party’s 126-days-long protest sit-in in front of the Parliament in Islamabad.

Earlier, the PTI chief chaired a meeting of the party’s district-level organisers. PTI leader and former Punjab governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar briefed the meeting regarding the party’s performance.

Khan, on the occasion, emphasised on party discipline.

Later speaking to the media for the second time in the day, Khan praised the proceeding of the Judicial Commission, saying never in Pakistan’s history ECP’s shortcomings surfaced like in this first-ever probe of this scale.

Commenting on traders’ strike over new proposed taxes, he said that his party would support the strike call, calling imposition of new taxes an atrocity on masses of the country.

Imran Khan warned the government against defaming the armed forces of the country, saying if he was involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the government with the Army then a probe should be conducted to unveil the truth.

The PTI chief demanded of the government to form an inquiry commission to probe such allegations. He vowed to leave the politics if embezzlement of even a single penny was proven against him.

“There are two ways of bringing the change... one is unconstitutional way of disruption and another is the lawful way in accordance with the constitution,” said Khan. The unconstitutional way will damage the democracy, he added.

Commenting about the party affairs, he admitted rifts and issues among the PTI ranks. Khan said he was trying to reorganise the party.

He regretted the fact that party tickets were awarded to relatives of the office bearers of the PTI in the local government elections.

Speaking on the matter of resignations of the PTI MNAs, Khan said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should adopt a straightforward policy.

“Tell us if our resignations are going to be accepted... we’ll return to the assemblies after contesting the re-polls then,” he said.
