LAHORE: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly proposing action against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain under Article 6 of the Constitution.

The resolution was submitted over an investigative report carried by BBC on June 24 which claimed that the MQM had received funding from India.

The resolution, presented by PTI lawmaker Mian Aslam Iqbal, demanded the formation of a high-powered commission to investigate the allegations against the MQM. It called for the initiation of a trial under Article 6 of the Constitution against Altaf Hussain and his companions if the charges are proved.

MPA Aslam Iqbal wanted to present the resolution before the House but the Speaker did not permit him to do so today. It is expected that the lawmaker would present the resolution before the provincial assembly tomorrow (Friday).
