Water essential to safeguard sustainable, prosperous future: PM

DUSHANBE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that to safeguard a sustainable and prosperous future for our coming generations, availability of water resources is essential.

Addressing the ‘Water for Life Conference 2015’ in Dushanbe, PM Sharif said two thirds of the world population could be facing water shortages. He emphasised that Pakistan is determined to provide access to water for residential consumers, industries and agriculture.

The prime minister further emphasised that in order to meet the challenges and to achieve the goals a strong and integrated regional as well global cooperation is needed to implement a balanced strategy.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told participants of the international conference that water is essential for our survival and the environment. He stressed that water shortage is a global challenge as the demand for water continues to rise.
With large population migration towards the cities, the problem is becoming more complex.

The prime minister added, that access to clean potable water has been emphasized as a basic human right by the United Nations adding that on a national, regional and global level this has helped increase awareness about the problem.
