KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday announced to launch a protest campaign from May 22 against the shortage of water being faced by Karachi and other parts of Sindh province.

MQM leaders Haider Abbas Rizvi, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Kanwar Jamil made the announcement during a joint press conference here.

Haider Abbas Rizvi noted that the price of a single water tanker has surged from Rs4,000 to Rs12,000 in the wake of acute shortage of water in Karachi. “It is in this context that MQM is planning to launch a public protest campaign,” he added.

He further said that besides Karachi, protests will also be staged in Sukkur, Nawabshah and other cities of Sindh.

A few days back MQM Chief Altaf Hussain had told the party leaders and workers to prepare for holding protests demonstrations over civic issues.
