QUETTA: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) resumed hearing of the murder case of Akbar Bugti on Wednesday emphasising that the decision would be handed down this year.

During proceedings ATC Judge Aftab Ahmed remarked that there had been no progress in the case over the last 2.5 years.

Earlier, on behalf of the prosecution, Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti’s lawyer Sohail Rajput recorded his statement. The court approved a prosecution plea that statements of other witnesses in the case be recorded during the next hearing.

During examination of former President Pervez Musharraf’s medical report, Sohail Rajput stated that the report did not mention that Musharraf could not walk. He added that the head of the medical board Dr Imtiaz is a friend of Musharraf’s and the report is prepared in his presence.

Sohail Rajput in his arguments said that Musharraf was reluctant to appear in this court but would appear in other courts and TV shows. He added that Musharraf was showing his strength by not appearing in this court which should be discouraged before it becomes a problem.

According to Rajput international doctors were contacted who said Musharraf’s illness was according to his age.

The defence attorney Akhtar Shah dismissed all these allegations stating that the medical board was formed after consultation with the Sindh and Balochistan governments. He further said that his client’s statement was on record according to which Musharraf could not appear in court because of health and security concerns.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till May 13.
