ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Tuesday that the Exit Control List (ECL) was misused in the past on like-dislike basis.

The interior minister was presiding over a high-level meeting in Islamabad today.

He advised the concerned authorities to evolve a clear system regarding inclusion of name of any person on the ECL.

Nisar constituted four committees, each to be headed by a senior officer of the rank of Additional Secretary, to further deliberate upon those ideas.

The committees are required to present their proposals within seven days.

Discussing bullet-proofing of vehicles, the minister said that only those citizens should enjoy this facility who are regular tax-payers and have genuine security concerns.

He said “we need to discourage those elements who use bullet proof vehicles as status symbols.”

On regulating security companies providing security services to the people, Nisar said that there is an urgent need to review the services that the security companies are providing to their clients.

Nisar also stressed the need for early re-validation of existing arms licenses.
