LAHORE: While corporal punishment has been outlawed in many developed countries, in Pakistan multiple cases of teachers injuring students come to light every year. A similar incident took place at a Government Girls High School in the provincial capital of Punjab on Thursday.

Sawera, a student of class-III did not know that asking an innocent question regarding why she scored low on a test, would result in a beating she will most likely never forget.

According to sources, upon hearing the student’s question her teacher Zahida Bibi became furious and thrashed Sawera with a cane bruising both her arms and legs.

Speaking to Geo News, Sawera’s father complained that his daughter was beaten to the extent that she cannot even sit down because of her injuries.

Punjab’s Minister for Education Rana Mashood has taken notice of the incident and has suspended the teacher and has ordered an inquiry against her. Meanwhile the police also registered a case and has initiated an investigation.
